Essay Questions-

1. Who do you think is most responsible for the damage done to the Earth and human beings in "Demeter and Persephone" - Eros, Pluto or Demeter? In an essay explain your choice. Refer to        AT LEAST two details from the selection to support your explanation. 

2. In ancient Greece, a well know Proverb warned "Nothing to excess." In other words, use moderation- do neither too much nor too little. In an essay explain how this philosophy is reflected in "Icarus and Daedalus". Consider how moderation would have helped Icarus escape the island. Support our answer with two references to the selection.

Literature:  Two Essays (the first essay can be in first or third person)

1. Write a summary of the "Other Frog Prince" from the princess's point of view.  Make sure that you SHOW her thoughts and feelings about the frog and what takes place in the story.

2.  If "Grasshopper Logic" were to continue, what do you think would happen next?  How will mom Grasshopper react?  Will Grasshopper learn his lesson?  DESCRIBE your predictions in a brief  essay and support it with details from the story.

• ESSAY QUESTION: Both autobiography and biography focus on elements in a person's life and offer insight into a person's behavior or ideas. In an essay, define the terms autobiography and biography, and explain how "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and "No Gumption" are examples of these forms of writing. Tell which work is an autobiography and which is a biography and explain how you know this. Finally, tell what you think is each author's purpose  and reasoning is for choosing to write the essay that you read.
