Essay Question:

1. Based on our reading of "Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl," what can you conclude about the traits the Aztecs admired? Consider the Emperor, Ixta, Popo, and the warriors who lied. Which of their characteristics were held in high esteem? Which were not? In an essay, describe the characteristics the Aztecs seem to have found most worthy. Cite at least three examples from the selection.

2. The Aztecs had to solve a number of basic problems in order to build a city the size of Tenochtitlan. In an essay, describe how the Aztecs solved the problem of securing an adequate supply of food. Where did the people get the food they ate? What steps did they take to ensure that there was water to irrigate crops? Cite at least two facts from "Tenochtitlan : Inside the Aztec Capital" to support your explanation.
